In her artistic journey, Ángela Solís O'Neill has always found deep satisfaction in constantly exploring forms, materials, and emotions. Her work, primarily pictorial and plastic, is strongly influenced by her passion for drawing, which permeates every stroke and creative decision. However, she also dabbles in sculpture, continually seeking new modes of expression.
With a foundation in classical and natural training, Ángela doesn’t entirely abandon human and material forms but reinterprets them through her unique abstract language. Her work is characterized by the deformation of everyday objects such as buildings, bicycles, and human bodies, which become vehicles for expressing deep emotions, often linked to suffering and childhood. These deformations are not merely stylistic exercises but are intended to reveal the underlying emotions and universal human experiences.
Her color palette is deliberately monochromatic, focusing on simplicity and contrast with combinations like blue and white, black and white, and red and white. This approach allows the true focus of her work to be on line and drawing, where color and texture play secondary but crucial roles, accompanying and enhancing the visual narrative.
Ángela works across various formats, with a preference for medium and large sizes, allowing her to explore and expand her ideas. She distances herself from grand social themes, focusing on humanity in its most intimate form instead, using suffering as a thread that unites people through empathy. In her work, common elements take on intense emotional weight, serving as bridges between the viewer and shared experiences.
Her style reflects an ongoing conversation with different artistic movements and masters from various eras, showcasing an endless search, digging inward while experimenting with materials and forms. Ángela Solís O'Neill invites us on an introspective journey, where each piece attempts to connect more deeply with the human essence and the bonds that unite us through the shared experience of pain and memory.
